Possibly something to do with the 20% tax that's included in UK prices? Without tax it's £87.99. Still more than the US one, though a £12 price difference is a bit easier to swallow.

  2. Mr. Devon Gislason IV says:

Kindle sucks at choosing font size. Their default size is too small for
my eyes, while the next available size is ridiculously large, I mean
like reading the headings of a newspaper. And there is no way to change
the size to an intermediate, not even on their new Paperwhite 2015 (gen.
    3) – just bought it and consider to switch to a KOBO aura HD.

  3. Ms. Annette Windler DVM says:

    That price though.

$119 is currently £75.67, I'm not sure where the other £34.32 is going to make £109.99 :/

  4. Prof. Alvah Cole I says:

still no epub support and no card slots. dammit. nook simple touch with the ikorss light it still is then :)

  5. Norwood Heller says:

e-ink technology will probably never be able to perform like a tablet in terms of smoothness in animations and the like.

I agree that Kobo's software is nicer, at least for libraries, and they support far more file types than the Kindle does. The new devices also have great screens and text is fairly sharp.

However, Amazon wins in just about every other aspect. Bigger book library, cheaper books, better syncing (personal document syncing!), and cheaper hardware. Amazon absolutely dominates in this market.

  6. Emory Pfeffer Sr. says:

In hardware and UI design terms, I have always thought the Kobo's were much nicer. Can't comment on the screen quality though.

If they ever get to a tablet-like experience in terms of smoothness in animations etc, I will definitely be more likely to pick up an ereader.
