  1. Mr. Doug Collier Jr. says:

Misguided how? Also what exactly is the point you're trying to make in your faintly aggressive comment?

  2. Maynard Littel says:

Yeah didn't NVidia just report record sales or something? More and more of the enthusiast market are building their own machines now.

  3. Weldon Berge Jr. says:

Yeah they are becoming a machine mostly for high end power use rather than general use now. I mean I also have a high end gaming rig right next to me, yet am lazing on the bed typing this on my phone, I find myself doing this quite often because it's more relaxing. If all I wanted to do was browse the internet, I wouldn't need a PC. For gaming though, a good PC is streets ahead of anything else.

  4. Ted Jast says:

If console bundle sales were decreasing, would that mean console sales are dying?

Just because prebuilts are getting less sales, doesn't mean that PC gaming is dying. Some journalist you are, not able to make the connect. Or maybe you just wanted clicks.

  5. Kylee Jacobi says:

    "For the average home loser"….
There fixed it for you. You certainly have a misguided view of other people's habits or preferences on the net. It's probably all that high end gaming you do.

  6. Hayden Carroll says:

Really don't think you understood my point at all there i'm afraid and I was in no way rubbishing the PC but the facts speak for themselves.

Most people have their phone on them at all times which are always on, generally at hand no matter where you are in the house or out and about and take seconds to very easily access the most commonly used content such as a browser, email, social media etc.

A PC on the other hand whilst great and having more accurate inputs, is tethered to the wall in one place, takes up space (which in many countries with small houses is at a premium) and for most people will take minutes to turn on (believe me, I've dealt with enough people's home computers to know that the majority aren't fast enough or need maintenance/upgrades that the owners aren't savvy enough to provide).
Absolutely love mine and for many they absolutely have there uses but for the majority of people they are simply not necessary, which is fine quite frankly and I don't see why some have a problem with this.

  7. Braeden Schmitt says:

The total sales doesn't factor the custom or DIY components. so PC is not Dying.
    LOL

  8. Vito Barton says:

Yeah ofc sales of pre builts like Dell and HP are down cuz most people are building their own nowadays

  9. Prof. Jeremy Kautzer says:

4k ps4 won't happen. A gpu that can run 4k at even 30fps cost about 400 bucks, add in the rest of the hardware required, which will have to include more ram and a better CPU you're looking at a nearly 700 playstation, that still only does 30fps. Then you need to buy a 4k TV.

  10. Ms. Burnice Kerluke says:

With a 4K capable PS4 on the horizon and upgradeable XboxOne consoles, PCs are doomed.

  11. Brittany Kunde Jr. says:

    HAHAHAHAHA

Which orifice did you pull your facts from man?

  12. Prof. Nat Bogisich says:

No, PC's are not convenient at all. Full keyboards, mouse control, don't have to worry about batteries…such a failure of a platform. Idiots.

  13. Hector Gottlieb says:

For the average home user who just browses the internet, checks emails and FB etc all they really need is a phone or tablet, PC's just aren't as immediate or convenient to use.

For anyone such as myself with specific needs/wants such as serious image editing, high end gaming and possibly higher end VR in the future it's not going to go out of fashion.

I do own a PS4 and top notch smartphone which get a lot more use than my PC but I wouldn't/couldn't be without it.

  14. Patricia Beatty says:

PC sales are down because people don't buy pre-built PCs, they build them. In 2015 PC gaming generated more revenue then xbox and ps4 combined.

  15. Dr. Kasandra Kohler MD says:

PC sales are driven by business and business sucks. They are also totally dependent on Windows and Microsoft sucks so that's a double whammy.

  16. Kasey O'Reilly says:

288.7 million units in a year is hardly "irrelevant" It's more than the total iPhone sales that year, and you wouldn't be asking if the iPhone is irrelevant.

  17. Lucy Dooley DVM says:

Yes, global pc shipments are on the way down, less people are buying premade computers, yes, very true.
But what about getting the numbers for none premade computers? for upgrade components? a lot of people upgrade rather then buy an entirely new pc, so they buy components.
    PC's are doing great.

  18. Miss Dana Rippin says:

PC is still the most popular platform out in market.

  19. Prof. Kendra Simonis says:

That is your OPINION and your OPINION sucks. Most people like what Microsoft is doing with Windows 10 and that is FACT not an OPINION.

  20. Alejandrin Kovacek says:

That's because Dell makes overpriced crappy PC's.
More people than ever are buying and building and total PC's built year over year have increased in no small part due to this generation of terrible consoles.

  21. Elmira Abshire says:

I switched to full on PC a few years ago when it came to gaming and browsing, with mobile devices as a supplement at work or before bed. Isn't going to change anytime soon.

I don't buy pre-built machines at all now because it doesn't make sense anymore. If I have the choice to buy one component to upgrade my PC, instead of buying an entirely new one, I will always buy the part that I need.

The PC is evolving, and it's evolving because people are starting to realize that they have a platform that they can upgrade part by part, as needed, whenever they feel like it, instead of buying a whole new device. It's been made so easy now, that there isn't really a reason to start all over every time you want a little boost in performance.

The platform isn't a failure at all. The idea that people will buy a whole new one is. Except for some Apple PC's of course, but that's a whole different discussion…

  22. Lennie McCullough says:

What a stupid article haha. PC is doing just fine "Rene". Way to live in ignorance.

  23. Georgianna Dibbert says:

Is this Rene Millman really so clueless? lol

  24. Kelsie Walker I says:

Most people don't have any choice. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/

  25. Wendell Gibson says:

Well if I was in an industry and ONLY sold 288million units I don't think I'd been losing too much sleep. While desktop sales may be declining among home users in preference for laptops or tablets the corporates will still want the traditional desktop.
