  1. Ms. Rowena Haag II says:

I like how you quoted him and left out the crucial part "TV". Minix X8 runs Android, not Android TV.

  2. Delaney Pollich says:

Dont care about Android tv i'll just put Kodi(XBMC) on it.But not 100% sure the gaming will come up to scratch

  3. Zander Kutch says:

Appreciate the honesty of your impressions, but this review might actually keep potential buyer (and their happiness) away: it's not true that this device lacks many streaming options. Infact, the moment you install Kodi on it, you create the PERFECT game/home cinema setup

  4. Archibald Bode says:

"World's first-ever" – yes, it was worded to impress.

  5. Chelsea Schaden says:

Netflix + Minix X8/ all china boxes = sucks

  6. Jerome Dibbert says:

kodi, plex, and goto the playstore and just install via there and its a perfect device, I have tried loads, amazon, roku, apple, forget the rest get the best….

gaming second to none, marshmallow update around the corner, its so quick, works perfectly for me anyways.

  7. Chaz Yost says:

    Check out NVIDIA GameStream

  8. Grover Powlowski PhD says:

What do you mean, "world's first 4k Android box"? The Minix X8 did this a year ago.

  9. Mr. Nikolas Walsh says:

You'll be playing Steam games on your PC still since this only uses Google Play.

  10. Miss Gertrude Olson says:

That X1 chip Nvidia said is 1Tflops of performance, where as the Xbox One is 1.3…. so well beyond the Wii U, not far off the Xbox One.

I would love to see if Rockstar could get GTA V running on it, which they should be able to since it's more powerful than a 360/PS3.

  11. Miss Dakota Kemmer I says:

It uses Nvidia streaming. I can play steam games on it.

  12. Oral Gusikowski says:

Hmm, and it does Netflix. I think I finally know how I'm going to play steam games on my TV.

  13. Cary Haag says:

    Hmm.. OneLive anyone?

  14. Ursula Fahey says:

Was it meant to impress you? If people want android tv and want it to be future proof, this is the only option at the moment.

  15. Dr. Rudolph Bauch Jr. says:

Yes it does, and the real strength of the NVidia Shield is that it supports hardware based decoding of H.265 files in Kodi. It's the *only* streaming device that currently does (though the Minix X8-H-PLUS does it far slower in software mode).

That makes the NVidia Shield the best streaming device on Planet Earth for high quality 1080p and 4K pirated content. That's why the NVidia Shield doesn't care about its official Android TV offering line up. It supports KODI better than any other streaming device, anywhere, out of the box. That means the NVidia Shield's unofficial content is something that Apple, Amazon and Roku can't hope to match, at a quality they can't equal, and at a price they can't >>ever<< beat.

So why would you buy those other devices instead of a Ferrari like the NVidia Shield? Because you are middle-aged+ and if you still had your VCR, it would *still* be flashing 88:88.

What NVidia does have is Grid to generate income and a real chance of establishing itself as the main "brand name" Kodi console in the marketplace.

Once it becomes that, it doesn't need to be anything else.

  16. Marlon Vandervort says:

ah ok. Big deal, I remain unimpressed.

  17. Magali Purdy says:

Look at their website. You can't play Steam games. Every game that's on GRID is last gen games, not a single game newer than one year old. They will have new games at release like Batman and The Witcher 3. If you buy those games on Nvidia you will get a code to also get the game on Steam, but you can only play Steam games through your PC and stream it to your TV. And you can only stream like that if your PC is also powered by Nvidia..

  18. Laverna Kshlerin V says:

'This is the world's first-ever 4K Android TV set-top box'?

For a tech review site, I'm afraid that this statement shows a complete lack of knowledge of the Android ecosystem and mentioning only the Amazon Fire TV and Roku 3 is another indication of pandering only to a few brands.

    Very poor I'm afraid.

  19. Kali Abbott says:

Suppose someone doesn't give a damn about TV shows or subscription gaming and just wants to load it up with console emulators; how well does it handle that?

The last Android box I got ran them all just fine, but it had terrible latency and button-locking issues with both a wireless keyboard and controllers, making it useless for any game that required more than two buttons pressed at a time, and it wouldn't save data, making it useless for playing RPGs.

  20. Anika Farrell says:

You can't unfortunately. That was just a sad, depressing typo.

    Good catch, though!

  21. Ms. Genevieve O'Connell V says:

    You mean OnLive, right?

  22. Prof. Elisha Koepp MD says:

"you can actually connect this to a 4K TV in your home, throw on Netflix
or Amazon Instant Video, and be treated to stunning 3,840 x 2,160
    resolution content."
How do I get Amazon on this?

  23. Viva Rath DVM says:

@@Graham Fluet yes you can I do it all the time.

  24. Mrs. Chanelle Kub says:

OneLive must be shaking in their boots right about now…
