Hey Matt. You forgot to mansion that Google offer unlimited free photo and 4k video back up

I might be like many other Note 7 expats hoping to find something just as good to upgrade.

I loved my note 4 and was set on having the Note 7, will this Pixel XL ever live up? Maybe? My only issue with Samsung only ever was that it wasn’t stock Android, which the pixel is, however, I love the expandable memory and some of the features the note had. I will give this Pixel a go though, looks like a solid first attempt from google, where they have had a say in the hardware AND software of a handset which had always put me off of the Nexus.

Aperture f2.0 is hardly a negative since it is actually the WIDEST lens opening allowing the MOST light for the camera with the tightest depth of field. The larger the aperture number, the smaller the opening and the less light available.

If you re-read the article you linked to the widest aperture ever created was a f0.7 so even using that logic the F1.7 of the samsung S7 is bigger than the F2.0 of the pixel

The primary advantage of the Pixel phones over other android phones is that this will have Google Assistant. You have to play with rooting and other modifications to get that on a non-Pixel android phone. Google is an AI and software company first, and a hardware company coming in way down the list.
Google Assistant will not be compatible with Amazon’s Echo, nor will Google’s Smart Home hardware. Access to Google’s AI, which is undoubtedly better than Amazon’s AI, is the primary selling point.
I highly want a Micro-SD card slot on my next phone, but am strongly considering buying a Pixel XL phone a month or so after they release (to see if Google is following Samsung into the incendiary munitions industry).
I don’t even want a smart home setup. The Google Assistant seems likely to be too useful to me as someone who travels for work. Google Search and Google Driving has expanded my ability to try different restaurants. I expect Google Assistant will further improve the results I receive for eating and shopping.
My only hesitation is that I haven’t had a chance to try out the full version of Google Assistant prior to owning a Pixel phone. Allo’s version is apparently a dumber version of what the Pixel will have, so it doesn’t count.

Lol people complaining about water proof and speakers. First off who is taking thier phones in the water besides the minority. Also most phones are good if drop in a little bit of water and dried out. Speakers on a phone won’t give you the same quality as a pair of good headphones. If the software is good and performance is good I’m in. I mean they have monthly payments if I want so I’m not complaining. I wanted a note 7 but I can’t take that chance especially around family and people around me. Iphones were never for me tbh I used a few in the past but just couldn’t get into them. I also want to see an in-depth review of the phone and I’ll make my final decision.

    1. BoneStarr says:

Totally agree, not a deal breaker for me

    1. BoneStarr says:

I feel your pain, I’m in the same boat, but I’m willing to give the Pixel a go, I’ve owned all of the previous Notes, but I’d rather switch to a Google made phone than an LG or Sony.

    2. Steven, A.D. says:

I actually just picked up an essentially new Nexus 6P for a $150 discount, so I don’t think that’s too far out of the realm of possibility.

      1. AndyB says:

:) I’m expecting my 6P to arrive tomorrow.

        1. Steven, A.D. says:

It’s a great phone! The nicest phone I’ve ever had, actually ahaha

          1. AndyB says:

I’ve got mine now. It certainly looks and feels like a very nice phone. For me, it also raises the question of how Samsung, HTC, Sony et al (including Google for the Pixel) think they can justify charging such exorbitant prices.

My previous phone was the OnePlus 2, and I paid a lot less than the launch price for my 6P. It would have cost about double to buy a Note 7 (before they were withdrawn) or the equivalents from the other big manufacturers.

With OnePlus, Huawei, Motorola etc showing that excellent phones can be made for a reasonable price, I can’t see me buying from a “premium” manufacturer again.

    3. Elli says:

That comparison is VERY inaccurate, and seems to be based on speculation about google pixel

    4. Dan Thorsland says:

Article states (following a reference to the 6p) “There are two more reasons the Pixel XL’s battery is likely to be better. First, the Snapdragon 821 processor should be more efficient than the Snapdragon 820 chip.”

  7. Matt Perkins says:

What kinda idiot would pay iPhone prices for an Android device? Android is less secure and has far more privacy issues than iOS does. And benchmarks time and again prove specs misleading so I sure can’t see justification to pay the same for less security and less privacy and more malware solely for specs that will end up performing similarly to the iPhone 7 Plus.

  8. Jason Aj says:

Waterproofing would be great, I agree. But currently waterproofing and front facing speakers are a rather niche feature outside of the techindroid community. They just aren’t features that people outside of tech forums are demanding, and have are a very small factor in the development cost of a phone.
